Review: 3 Doors Down

3 Doors Down
““The Better Life””
(Universal)

Will our radio stations have no mercy?  Our program directors are undoubtedly suffering from severe cases of dementia.  This is the only rationale I can surmise for plugging 3 Doors Down’s “Kryptonite” into rotation every third song and browbeating innocent listeners.  It’s all a twisted plot to destroy our sanity.  Granted it was once a relatively engaging rock song, but alas, it is no more.  Now we are left with a most unsavory, unpalatable, ever-looming presence as lifeless and maddening as a Creed ballad in rotation every second song.  After forcing myself to absorb the rest of “The Better Life”, I have come to the solid conclusion that the rest of the album follows suit and current radio-played “Loser” is well on its way to becoming one.  There is nothing recognizably erroneous with the musicianship or lyrics.  It just feels vapid and void of any sheen.  You know, the “oomph” that makes “rock” rock.  However, if you’re of the masochistic sort and can’t get enough of 3 Doors Down, save yourself a couple of bucks and just turn on your local radio station – I will guarantee it’’ll spin within the hour.
