Recruit from within. Apparently the philosophy worked for Naglfar as they upgraded founder and bassist Kristoffer Olivius to lead vocal duties with their celebrated 2005 release, “Pariah.” It is with Olivius’ fierce, hissing, demonic frontman abilities that Naglfar succeeds on “Harvest”. The band has an affinity for ear-scorching speed and showcases an obsession with blastbeats and black metal double-picking. The surprise in the mix here the injection of choruses so catchy they belong nowhere near black metal. But it works. Even when Olivius is rasping “watch me, see how I suffer and die” it’s as infectious as the lastest Fergie jam.
